Keeping Warm When
Riding in the Winter
With winter right around the corner, it is time to start thinking about how you are going to keep yourself warm while riding. While many people put their bikes away when the colder weather strikes, there are just as many riders who still take their bikes out even after the temperature goes south. If you are one of these people, there are a few things you will need to keep in mind in order to stay warm as you ride.
Warming Up with the Right Jacket
One of the most important steps you can take to keep yourself warm during the winter months is to purchase the right jacket for you ride. Not only do you need to find a jacket that will keep you warm, you also need to know how to find the right size. To do this, you will need to measure your chest, your waist and your arm length. Then, compare this information to the size charts available online at The Helmet Center. http://www.thehelmetcenter.com/Size-Charts-Parts-Sizes-Manuals-and-More-sp-4.html
Not sure how to measure your chest, waist and arm length? It's actually easier than you think. First, you will need to get yourself a cloth tape measurer. Then, place the tape around your chest at its fullest part, but beneath your arms. Insert a finger between the tape and your chest in order to allow for a little breathing room, and then take your measurement. When measuring around your waist, make sure you aren't pulling too tightly. For your arms, use the same tape measurer to measure from your armpit down to your wrist.
Keeping Your Hands Warm
Of course, your hands are really vulnerable when riding in cold weather. After all, the cold air is running over the top of them on a regular basis. In addition, your body will naturally concentrate on keeping your vital organs warm and will worry about your extremities last. Obviously, this is not only uncomfortable, but it is hard to operate your controls when your hands are cold and stiff. Therefore, having a good pair of gloves is another essential element to riding in the winter.
When searching for winter gloves, it is important to find a pair that fits your hands properly. If they are too tight, they will impede your circulation, which will only make your hands feel colder. At the same time, it is best to avoid bulky gloves, as a streamlined design will help move the cold air over your hands more effectively.
It is also a good idea to buy a pair of gloves that extend up high on your arm or that have a wide hook-and-loop closure that goes around the wrist. This way, you can be sure the wind and cold air won't cut through the top of the glove.
Insulation is also an important part of a good pair of winter gloves. It is best to use gloves that feature 3M Thinsulate or some other form of high-efficiency lining. This lining should be used in all parts of the glove, including in the area between the fingers. At the same time, it is nice to have a little less insulation in the palm area. This way, you can still feel the controls and use them effectively. Along this same line, winter gloves that are pre-curved are your best option, as they offer more comfort when your hand is curled up around your controls.
Going Electric
In order to really optimize your heat, you might also want to consider purchasing an electric heated vest. Not only will this help keep your body warm, it will also free up the heat that your body would normally send to your organs, which means more of that heat can go to your feet and hands.
Of course, wearing a good pair of socks, boots and pants will also go a long way toward keeping you warmer. You might also want to consider purchasing waterproof items to help keep you warm and comfortable if rain or snow start to fall. Simply put, the better prepared you are for cold temps and bad weather conditions, the warmer and safer you will be as you ride.

TheHelmetCenter.com Newsletter Sept 08 - GoPro Cameras
Untitled Document
Sept 2008
Catch All the Action with GoPro Cameras
Do you want to show the whole world what you see when you ride your motorcycle? If so, you might want to look into getting a GoPro camera. With a GoPro helmet-mounted or wrist-mounted camera, you can easily capture all of the images you see while riding on the open road. Or, you can film your own facial expressions as you hit top speed, take a hard curve or even make a daring leap in the air on your bike.
GoPro offers a variety of different cameras that are designed specifically for the biking enthusiast. The Digital Hero 3 Sport Wrist Camera offers a 3 megapixel sensor, 3x sequence photo burst and 54 minutes of video and audio recording time. With just a 4.5 ounce flyweight, it will be barely noticeable when mounted on your wrist.
If you want to keep the camera on the scene in front of you or behind you, you might be more interested in the Quick Release Helmet Hero Video Camera. This camera is specifically designed to be mounted to your helmet, but still comes with a 3 megapixel sensor and a 3x sequence photo burst. This camera offers slightly more recording time than the Digital Hero 3 Sport Wrist Camera, with 56 minutes of video and audio recording time.
If you would rather have the option to mount your camera to either your bike or your helmet, the Motorsports Hero Quick Release Vehicle Camera may be a better option. Like the Quick Release Helmet Hero Video Camera, this camera offers 56 minutes of video and audio recording time. This mini, wireless digital camera is waterproof and features a quick-release design that makes mounting easy.
All three of the GoPro cameras come with a one year warranty and supports up to 2GB SD. In addition, they are each powered with either AA or AAA batteries, which means there is no need to purchase specialty batteries that can put a strain on your pocketbook.

Choosing the Right Equipment for a Comfortable Bike Ride
The great news is that summer is here, the bad news is that means an increase in heat, and what better way to ride hot but stay cool than with the latest cooling vests and Jackets from Techniche?
There is just something special about warm weather that calls to the sport bike enthusiast. Perhaps it is memories of riding along the road during a warm summer evening as the colors of the world changed with each turn. Or maybe the drive to ride in the summer is to feel the freedom that only riding a sport bike can give. Whatever the case we are psyched that summer is here and can’t wait to get you geared up with the latest cooling vests available.
This specially designed equipment is made out of a unique blend of nylon and polymer material that are complimented with a water-repellant liner. This special blend of material and the manner of construction are sure to keep you cool even on the hottest of rides. The evaporative technology of each Techniche cooling vest or jacket insures that you remain comfortable during the entire day. This means that no matter how harsh the temperature you will feel refreshed and ready to ride all day long.
A great feature about the Techniche line is that they thought ahead about the needs of the all day rider. All of their jackets come with detachable sleeves to provide any rider with warmth for the early morning, as the weather heats up, simply remove the sleeves and experience a whole new level of cooling magic. Then as the long shadows of evening begin to overtake the road simply reattach the sleeves and again you are as comfortable as you have been the entire day.
Another thing summer brings is summer rains, and there is nothing that can ruin a ride quicker than an unexpected storm. The good news is that you can beat the elements easily with the light and durable items offered by companies such as Firstgear and Alpinestars. Both of these companies offer remarkable items that are sure to help any rider continue the ride no matter how hard the rain is coming down. Both companies offer a variety of styles and materials ranging from light to heavy in design, because they know that all riders want maximum comfort on their ride.
